Wow…That is a long flight

October 15, 2008

How long does it take to fly 8,000 miles you ask…a long time. Especially when you get stuck on the tarmac at Kennedy for three extra hours. Actually, as a percentage of the entire travel time, the three hours is not really that much. One advantage of flying for 17+ hours, is the pilot can actually make up a considerable amount of time. He shaved off 1 hour in the flight from JFK to Dakar, Senegal, and then another hour flying to Cape Town. Here’s our little 767 at JFK.  Things get interesting after Dakar. It seems that half of our luggage did not make it from Dakar–the half with clothing. Never fear Passaro’s and Borden’s…your stuff is safely in South Africa, but our clothing is somewhere else on the continent.

Lest you think that we are roughing it, there is a MacDonald’s playland right around the corner from our hotel:

And here is Table Mountain from our hotel window. Unfortunately the camera was in the overhead bin as we flew into Cape Town into a beautiful view of Table Mountain and Robbin Island. Maybe on the way out we will remember.

All in all, we are tired and a little bedraggled, but this is going to be exciting. Our power adaptor is in one of the lost suitcases, so this may be the last post for a little while.
